The Speaking Section in an actual IELTS examination is what confuses many candidates not because they are unable to speak to foreigners, but because they do not know what to say and how to say to their examiners, particularly in Part II (dicussion on a common subject) of the speaking section. This is a very important part which decides their subscores. Therefore, it accounts for my decision on writing the book, "50 speaking topics for IELTS tests", discussing the ordinary topics such as family, fashion, economy, travelling, politics, education, science and technology etc in a hope that it will probally make you more confident in presenting your good ideas in this kind of test. The book has properly been organized in eight chapters consistings of 50 topics of which each is divided into the following three sub parts: - Suggested questions (the question likely to be asked by an examiner) - Suggested ideas (opinions likely to be presented according to the suggested questions above). - How to begin a topic (ways to warm up your topics, appealing to an examiner) Forward Here some topics in this book: Chapter 1: Work and study - Topic 1: Unemployment, especially among young people, is a serious problem in many countries today. What can be done about it? Do you think traditional ideas about work should be changed? - Topic 2: Are you unhappy with something at the place where you work or study? What changes or improvements, do you think, should be made? - Topic 3: Are you happy with your present job? Why / why not? - etc., Chapter 2: Traveling and traffic - Topic 9: Why is it a good idea to travel by public transport? What can be done to improve the quality of this service in our city / town? - Topic 10: Private cars should be banned from the centers of the large cities and towns and travel by public transport should be widely promoted. "What do you think?" Give reasons. - etc., Chapter 3: Family, lifestyle, money and happiness - Topic 15: I would rather be an only child than have 6 brothers and sisters. How far do you agree with this view? - Topic 16: The difference between your own life-style and that of your parents are interesting. Talk about the differences between your life and parents life. - etc., |
