This series of three practical workbooks is aimed at children in primary school who need help with English in order to study Mathematics. Some of the language of mathematics is rarely heard outside the classroom. It may, hence, be unfamiliar to children who aren’t native English speakers. Words can also have a different, meaning in the mathematics classroom. This can lead toconfusion and can hinder progess. English for Mathematics includes: simple explanations of words and language structures, with diagrams and illustrations to aid understanding carefully graded activities linked to the topic and the focus vocabulary so learners can pratice using the language easy-to-follow notes to parents or teachers, containing ideas on how to use the book with learners. The workbooks are loosely based around expected learning outcomes in year 3, 4 and 5, but are flexible enough to be used at other times in primary school. The books can be used in class alongside the main textbook or at home for farther practice and reinforcement.
